Our good works will not earn us eternal life, because no matter how hard we try we cannot earn it.
But Jesus Christ has given it to us as a free gift. Yet, we are told that faith without works is dead.
What is that all about? Faith is always seen as something that does something to us; it changes us, grows us, challenges us, and saves us. When we talk about saving faith, we are talking about faith that places all of you in the hands of Jesus Christ. Have you done that? How do you know? Is it possible to attend church every Sunday, say some prayers, know some scriptures and not know Jesus? This tension is dealt with in this week's message "Close, but yet so far" - from James 2:14-26.
